Roman Kemp reveals he is ‘terrified of not having children’ as he shares his fears over infertility and pays tribute to his famous parents

Roman Kemp has spoken openly about his desire to have children of his own, admitting that he is “terrified of not having children.”

The 31-year-old presenter raved about his close relationship with his parents Martin Kemp and Shirlie Holliman, revealing that the example they set for him inspired his desire to start a family of his own.

In an interview with Heat magazine, Roman admitted that he too was worried about his own infertility and underwent a sperm test last year.

The star confessed to the magazine: “I’m terrified of not having children. That’s my biggest problem. I even had a spermiogram test done when I was 30. I’m a very family-oriented person.”

Roman and his father Martin are known for their close bond after appearing together on Celebrity Gogglebox for the first time in 2019.

“I always told my friends that no matter what job I choose, they would know that I was really happy when I called them and told them I was having a baby.”

Roman was previously in a relationship with his ex-girlfriend Anne-Sophie Flury for three years, but the couple separated in 2020.

Since then, he has been linked to fellow radio star Codie Jones and German model Jette Kerkoff, but a relationship with either of them has never been confirmed.

The star also joked that he doesn’t care about being called a Nepobaby as it hasn’t hurt his career in the entertainment industry.

He openly admitted that he enjoys it and that if his father could have given him jobs, he would have taken them, just as he would try to help his future children get where they want to go in life.

Roman also spoke openly about his depression and admitted that he cannot imagine ever living without antidepressants.

The star confessed to the publication: “I’m terribly afraid of not having children. That’s my biggest problem. I even did a spermiogram test when I was 30. I’m a very family-oriented person.”

The star, who has been taking antidepressants since he was 15, said he tried to come off sertraline but found it didn’t work for him.

He admitted that the only time he had real suicidal thoughts was when he stopped taking the medication and stopped abruptly; taking the medication was therefore life-changing.

Roman quit his job at Capital Breakfast in March, thanking his listeners for “saving his life” during his years-long battle with depression.

The 31-year-old radio presenter thanked the show and its listeners for getting him through some of his darkest days and said how grateful he was to them for bringing “light and laughter into his life” during his radio appearance.

Roman became emotional as he said, “I’ve had moments on this show where my whole life outside of work was completely messed up. There were times when I didn’t want to be here anymore.”

“There were moments when my life outside of this room was the worst ever.

The star also joked that he didn’t mind being called a nepobaby as it hadn’t hurt his career in the entertainment industry (pictured in 2002 with his parents and sister Harley).

“I know I can have a great life, but in my head it didn’t feel that way. I knew that all I had in my life were those four hours a day where I could come to work, and in those four hours I would laugh and have fun and be surrounded by people who understood me, and those four hours and the people I’m talking about include you – the listeners. You have no idea how much you helped me.”

Roman continued, “I want to thank you for listening, for every text, every call, for everything. I appreciate it more than you’ll ever know. I had an incredible time and I owe a huge debt of gratitude to this company for putting their trust in me.”

“I was terrified to take on this show and I’m terrified to leave it. But sometimes with these things you just know when the time is right to move on and for me that time is now.

“You have helped me so much and always supported me. It has been amazing. Honestly, from the bottom of my heart, you have really saved my life at times.”
