Whoopi Goldberg publishes comic book: “The Change”

When it comes to comics, Whoopi Goldberg chose the change she wanted to see the world.

In the July 9 episode of The viewthe 68-year-old actress and TV personality, announced that her comic, The changeis out now – and has revealed some interesting details about the unique protagonist she originally intended to portray!

The Sister act The star told her co-hosts that she was inspired to write the book – co-authored by screenwriter Jaime Paglia and illustrated by Sunkanmi Akinboye – to help her feel better represented in a medium she has always loved.

“I love comics,” she said. “I’ve loved comics since I was a kid. But none of the comics appealed to me, so I wrote my own.”

Goldberg, who recently published her memoirs Bits & Pieces: My mother, my brother and Ialso revealed that she wrote the comic project “25 years ago – because I was in the middle of a transition,” she said. “It’s about a woman who embraces the superpowers she gains through menopause.”

When co-host Joy Behar asked what superpowers the main character Isabel Frost possesses, Goldberg quoted a scene from the book to explain. “She’s in the middle of an argument with her husband and he’s really getting on her nerves,” she said.

Then the husband starts to get hot because Frost is “basically cooking him,” Goldberg explained, adding that at this point in The changethe hero “doesn’t know that she has these powers.”

“She transfers her warmth to him,” Sunny Hostin dared to quip, and Goldberg replied, “Well, she does what all good superheroes do: If you don’t stop talking, they move you.”

The Color Purple The actress also explained how she decided on Frost’s look. “So many superheroes have beautiful breasts and great bodies,” Goldberg said. “She doesn’t have that. She looks like a normal human being.”

“And she’s gained weight. And she’s funny,” she continued. “And I wanted to play her – I wrote her so I could have a superhero, but I got too old for that.”

According to an official summary The change follows the journey of Frost, “a woman who has spent her life as a wife, a mother, a grandmother – a life that she feels did not live up to her expectations, with a husband who went in a different direction.”

“With her computer science background, Isabel is a fantastic gamer who plays with people all over the country,” the synopsis continues. “With the help of her comic-loving grandson and irreverent best friend, she must learn to control her abilities and embrace her new identity as The Change – both the change of life and her surprising and extraordinary superpowers.”
