Morgan Riddle, girlfriend of Taylor Fritz, talks about the Wimbledon drama

Morgan Riddle’s mission to “make tennis cool again in the United States” seems to be working.

National media outlets are now covering every update on Riddle’s Instagram story and every little detail of her trip to Wimbledon, where she cheered on her boyfriend Taylor Fritz, who is trying to accomplish something no American tennis player has accomplished in a long time.

After Fritz defeated Alexander Zverev (4:6, 6:7(3), 6:4, 7:6(3), 6:3) late on Monday to advance to the quarterfinals, the tabloids concluded that Riddle may have violated unwritten rules of etiquette and that Zverev was not happy with Fritz’s fan base.

Riddle, who is no stranger to social media and has built her career with half a million TikTok fans, jumped into the fray on Tuesday morning.

“As for my (Instagram) stories from yesterday… I deleted them as soon as I realized the misunderstanding and how much the media hyped them up. They were not about anything that happened off the court and there is no bad blood between anyone,” Riddle wrote in his Instagram story.

“Super proud of (Fritz) for the game yesterday, thanks to the crowd for the support and looking forward to tomorrow,” she added.

After Monday’s match, Zverev admitted that there may have been a problem with individuals in Fritz’s box who “may not be from the tennis world.”

Perfect.

Will Morgan Riddle save tennis in the next 24 hours?

Let’s face it, the average sports fan can’t name the big names at Wimbledon. Maybe Novak Djokovic springs to mind because they saw a segment about him on 60 Minutes, but even that’s highly unlikely. The Williams sisters are dead. John McEnroe is now on welfare. Jimmy Connors is 71. Chris Evert will be 70 in December.

Morgan Riddle turns 27 at the end of the month.

All eyes and ESPN cameras will be on her when she steps into the Fritzbox for Wednesday’s quarterfinal match against Lorenzo Musetti. No American has won this tournament since 2000, when Pete Sampras won his seventh title on grass.

It has been 21 years (Andy Roddick, US Open 2003) since an American man won a major title.

While the pressure is on Taylor Fritz’s shoulders for Wednesday’s game, his girlfriend will be making waves on Google Trends.

The American media will make sure of that.
