Voice-controlled game developer Volley closes Series C funding round with million

Voice-controlled game developer Volley has closed its Series C funding round, securing $55 million.

It follows Volley’s Series A round in 2020 and Series B round in 2022, both led by Lightspeed Venture Partners.

Round C was again co-led by Microsoft M12 Ventures and Lightspeed, with participation from Causeway Media Partners, General Catalyst, Amazon Alexa Fund, BITKRAFT, Y Combinator, Boost VC, Alumni Ventures, Waverley, Gaingels and Riverside.

Volley, founded in 2016 by Max Child and James Wilsterman, claims to be the world’s highest-grossing AI-powered gaming company and the leading developer of AI-powered games for smart TVs and Alexa devices, attracting over 5 million players each month.

It uses speech recognition, natural language processing, large language models and speech synthesis to “create seamless, simple and fun conversations”.

“This latest round of funding will accelerate our development of new voice-controlled, AI-powered games,” said Child, who serves as CEO.

“Large language models and other emerging AI language technologies enable us to develop entirely new game categories that were not possible before. We are excited to expand our portfolio of titles and reach new customers with the support of Microsoft and Lightspeed.”
