Laika and Lord Miller team up on live-action adventure Crumble | News

US-based stop-motion company Laika is expanding its live-action pipeline and collaborating with The Lego Movie And Spider-Vers Filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller about Crumble.

Brian Duffield wrote and will direct the story about a married couple who embark on an adventurous journey around the globe to find a cure for an ancient curse.

Lord and Miller produce along with Aditya Sood through Lord Miller. Lucy Kitada and Nikki Baida of Lord Miller serve as executive producers.

Duffield directed the 2023 sci-fi thriller Nobody will save you with Kaitlyn Dever for Hulu and the 2020 coming-of-age horror comedy Spontaneous on Paramount+.

Matt Levin, president of live action films and series at Laika, made the announcement on Tuesday, praising Duffield’s “unique voice,” adding: “Lord Miller is in a class of his own and we couldn’t ask for a better creative team to bring this story to life.”

Lord and Miller added: “We are thrilled to continue working with our friend Brian Duffield, who has written a script that is endlessly imaginative, funny and romantic. We have long been fans of Laika and Travis Knight’s groundbreaking work in animation and couldn’t be more excited to work with them on live-action films.”

Laika’s live-action subsidiary has a number of projects in development, including a feature film based on the action thriller novel Seventeen by screenwriter John Brownlow. The company’s animated films include Kubo and the Brave Samurai, Coraline, And The Boxtrolls.
