Jimmy Buffett vinyl series continues with four new editions

A summer-long celebration of Jimmy Buffet continues with a new series of remastered vinyl reissues. The latest batch will be released in September and includes Changes in latitude, changes in settings (1977), Son of a sailor’s son (1978), volcano (1979) and Barometer soup (1995).

The 10-album Buffett anniversary edition spans three decades of the late folk hero’s career. Several out-of-print records from the ’70s and ’80s are reissued on vinyl for the first time in more than four decades, while three of his beloved albums from the ’90s make their vinyl debut.

The best-selling, platinum-certified Changes in latitude, changes in altitude is considered Buffett’s breakthrough. The album contains his most successful solo single “Margaritaville”, which captures Buffett’s relaxed tropical lifestyle and reached number 8 on the Hot 100. Just one year later, Buffett shared Son of a sailor’s son which includes the hits “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Livingston Saturday Night” and “Mañana.” “Cheeseburger in Paradise” peaked at number 32 on the Hot 100 and describes a delicious meal after “nearly seventy days” of frugal eating.

volcano continued Buffett’s streak of classic records from the late ’70s, reaching No. 14 on the Billboard Top 200 and No. 13 on the Billboard Top Country Albums. The gold-certified collection includes the popular singles “Fins,” “Volcano,” and “Survive.” The album is named after the then-dormant volcano that towers over the island of Montserrat, where Buffett recorded at George Martin’s AIR Studios. Finally, Buffett’s 19th studio album, Barometer soupreached number 6 on the Billboard 200 and includes the single “Mexico”, originally written by James Taylor.

These releases follow a first trio of Buffett’s albums: Life and death in 3/4 time (1973), A special port (1983) and fruitcake (1994).
