Popular rock singer has to undergo emergency surgery, band cancels tour dates

Queens of the Stone Age cancel their remaining tour dates in July because frontman Josh Homme has to undergo emergency surgery.

The band released a statement on social media confirming the cancellation and Homme’s surgery.

“QOTSA regrets to advise that Josh Homme must return to the United States immediately for emergency surgery,” the statement said. “Every effort has been made to hold out and play for you, but continuing is no longer an option.”

The statement advised fans who purchased tickets for these dates to hold on to them and expect to be contacted directly by the point of purchase with further information.

The reason for the emergency operation was not explained, although Homme has had a number of health problems in the past. Last year, he was diagnosed with cancer, among other things, but he has kept the details secret.

The news affects eight dates in Europe. According to QOTSA’s official website, the next show is scheduled for August 24 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The last show before the cancellation announcement took place last Saturday in Milan, Italy.

Earlier this month, Homme announced that QOTSA would be the first band to perform at the Catacombs of Paris and that the performance would take place “in about a week”; however, a date has not yet been announced.
