The genetic testing company Natera issues fraudulent invoices to its customers who undergo genetic testing in order to have children, according to a class action lawsuit.

Plaintiff Elizabeth Copley’s 2021 class action lawsuit alleges that Natera billed thousands of women for thousands of dollars, even though they said they would not be charged more than $249.

“Thousands of women received bills from Natera for thousands of dollars. They were shocked, angry and stressed because they had no idea they were using such an expensive service,” Natera’s class action lawsuit states.

Natera does not disclose the full test price in advertising, marketing and class action lawsuits

The class action lawsuit against Natera for unfair billing practices argues that the company deceives its patients about the prices of its tests by not disclosing the full price in any of its promotional materials or marketing channels and by touting a so-called price transparency program that it “clearly does not adhere to.”

“The amounts billed can vary from zero to several thousand dollars, leaving patients with absolutely no insight into the amount they may ultimately be billed,” Natera’s class action lawsuit states.

Copley alleges that Natera is guilty of breach of an implied contract or quasi-contract and of the California Consumer Rights Protection Act And Unfair competition.

Plaintiff seeks a jury trial and seeks declaratory and injunctive relief as well as restitution and/or disgorgement for herself and all class members.

Numerous consumers have filed complaints against Natera over the years because the company claimed surprised her with medical bills which were higher than expected due to allegedly misleading pricing information.
