Chris Paula 12-time NBA All-Star and future Hall of Famer, signed a one-year contract with one of the NBA’s strongest franchises, the San Antonio Spursearlier this week.

With a 20-year generational perspective Victor Wembanyama begins his second season in the NBA, the Spurs will certainly hope that the team makes it to the playoffs after finishing 14th in the Western Conference last season.

And having an experienced player like Paul on the team could be crucial for the team to make the jump from the bottom of the table to the playoff round.

Despite Paul’s status as an NBA legend and his potential impact on the team, the Spurs’ social media team didn’t seem to bother creating an announcement graphic worthy of his status.

“This is what happens when you ask someone to work while on paid leave,” said one viral reaction to the photo.

“The design team sent out-of-office messages,” read another.

“The high school yearbook committee did a great job,” a basketball fan joked.

For Paul, the upcoming season will be his 20th in the NBA and the Spurs will be the 7th team he plays for, following the New Orleans Hornets (now Pelicans), Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors.

The 2023–24 season with the Warriors saw him come off the bench for the first time in his career, as he appeared in 58 games with the Warriors but only started 18 of them. As a result, Paul posted some of the lowest numbers of his career, averaging 9.2 points, 6.8 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.

In addition to signing Paul, the Spurs also signed guard Stephon Castle from the University of Connecticut with the 4th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. This summer, franchise star Victor Wembanyama will play for France at the Olympic Games.
