New York Mets shortstop Jose Iglesias’ song “OMG” has become a rallying cry that sparks joy in the dugout after home runs. He even got to sing it on the field after a game. Jerome McCroy, aka “Jaymaccustoms,” helped to further fuel the team’s OMG enthusiasm with a sign he designed.
In recent weeks, the Mets have posed with the colorful OMG sign, especially after home runs.

A native of Ridgewood, Queens, McCroy has always been artistically gifted but began focusing on art as a career over 10 years ago. He has created sneaker and canvas paintings, pencil and ink drawings, and woodcuts.
“I wanted to do something to celebrate Jose Iglesias’ song ‘OMG,’ which is the Mets’ unofficial victory song and is also played when they hit home runs,” McCroy told amNewYork. “I based it on the shirts Iglesias printed when he was fired and gave to his teammates and especially to (Mets co-owner) Alex Cohen.”
The Mets posted a solid 16-8 record in June, the best in the National League, and the turnaround added excitement and hope to a season that once seemed lost.
“As a lifelong Mets fan, it’s incredible to be connected on this level,” McCroy said. “Every home run means my sign goes up. The team seems electrified right now.”
There have also been other teams that have incorporated fun paraphernalia into their dugouts. Some examples include a rally monkey in Anaheim, a thumbs down for the Yankees, and a trident in Seattle.
“I think the team should do what feels good,” McCroy said. “That’s how you build chemistry. Winning is definitely the number one priority, but the focus is on all 26 guys and the organization supporting each other.”

Fans often create signs, posters and more to inspire a team. Rarely does it find its way to the team dugout and have as big an impact on the clubhouse as the OMG sign in New York.
“I was not expecting this kind of reception at all. I was completely focused on sharing this post to express my gratitude for making everything right,” McCroy said. “I am incredibly grateful to Alex Cohen and her hospitality to all the fans, including helping me deliver the sign to the team.”
The Mets will look to continue their winning streak, while McCroy looks forward to seeing his OMG sign held high with pride.
