Pastor Emmanuel Iren reacts to Tem’s win in the BET Gospel category: “The church should not complain”

The Senior Pastor of Celebration Church International, Pastor Emmanuel Iren, explained that the church has no right not to complain because a secular singer, Temilade Openiyi, alias Tems, won the Gospel/Inspirational category at the BET Awards.

According to the preacher, some gospel singers shy away from this label and say they prefer to be called inspirational artists.

He noted that some gospel singers have a popular sound but do not fit into this category. He also noted that they should not worry about such awards. They can always organize their own.

Iren talks about the collaboration between gospel and secular artists

The pastor also reacted to the collaboration of some gospel singers with secular artists. He said that for them, this is a sign that they are in the same category as secular musicians and should not complain if they are excluded.

The BET Awards took place on June 30th in Los Angeles, USA. Nominees in the Gospel/Inspiration category included Cece Winans, Naomi Raine, Kirk Franklin and Maverick City Music.
