Whitmer begins book tour for “True Gretch” in Seattle • Michigan Advance

Hot on the heels of the release of the Michigan governor’s new book, “True Gretch,” which coincided with a turning point in Democratic politics that saw intense speculation about Whitmer’s role in her party’s future, the newly minted author plans to embark on a book tour next week.

Whitmer will hold four events in Michigan as part of her tour, including a conversation with Jeff Daniels at the Purple Rose Theater in Chelsea on July 22, a conversation with former Governor Jim Blanchard at Michigan State University on July 23, and an event in Traverse City with Bob Sutherland on July 31.

A graphic promoting the reading tour also promises a “surprise event in Detroit” that will be announced at a later date.

Whitmer publishes her book “True Gretch” in July, confirming earlier reports

Whitmer will kick off the tour in Seattle on Sunday before stopping in Santa Monica, San Francisco, Martha’s Vineyard and the country’s capital.

Whitmer will be joined by comedian Samantha Bee at the event at George Washington University in Washington, DC on July 30.

The book’s release is sure to fuel speculation about whether Whitmer could be a possible successor should President Joe Biden step down amid questions about his age – statements she has repeatedly denied – or whether she might run for the nation’s highest office herself in 2028. Notably, however, the book’s tour does not include stops in key swing states, favoring areas with a high density of Democratic donors.

Whitmer spent Monday visiting bookstores across Michigan to sign copies of the book, which went on sale Tuesday.

Signed copies are available at Schuler Books in Meridian Township, Literati Bookstore in Ann Arbor, The Book Beat in Oak Park, and Source Booksellers in Detroit while supplies last.

Whitmer signed the books with a hot pink Sharpie and complimented a Schuler Books employee on his pin that read, “Wear pink and get shit done.”
