Ike Taylor’s son changes his commitment to Michigan

PITTSBURGH – The son of a former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback made headlines when he signed to play college football, emerging as one of the best high school athletes of his class.

Ivan Taylor, the son of former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor, decided to shift his commitment from Notre Dame to Michigan.

Ivan Taylor is one of the top safeties in the class of 2025 and plays for West Orange High School in Winter Garden, Florida, near Orlando. As a junior in the 2023 season, he made 45 tackles, six tackles for loss, one interception and forced four fumbles.

He is a unanimous four-star prospect and all three major recruiting sites have him ranked that way. 247Sports ranks him 41st in the nation, the No. 2 safety and the No. 5 recruit in Florida, Rivals has him 102nd in the country, No. 20 in Florida and No. 11 at his position, while On3 ranks him 132nd in the nation, No. 21 in his state and No. 14 as a safety.

Among Michigan’s top recruits for the class of 2025, he is ranked No. 1 by 247Sports, No. 2 by On3 and tied for No. 2 by Rivals.

Ivan Taylor committed to Notre Dame on Dec. 1 and spent seven months in the 2025 class before withdrawing his commitment and landing at Michigan, the defending national champions.

He took a photo with fellow Fighting Irish Class of 2025 recruits Elijah Burress and Jerome Bettis Jr. and their fathers, the sons of former Steelers wide receiver Plaxico Burress and Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis.

Ike Taylor played two seasons for Louisiana-Lafayette in 2001 and 2002. In his final season, he moved to cornerback and showed his strengths by making 46 tackles, defending eight passes, forcing two fumbles and preventing every opposing catch in four games.

The Steelers selected him in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the same year they drafted future Hall of Famer Troy Polamalu in the first round.

Ike Taylor had an incredible 12 seasons with the Steelers and played a major role on two Super Bowl winning teams, XL against the Seattle Seahawks and XLIII against the Arizona Cardinals.

In his first 11 seasons in Pittsburgh, he missed only seven games, three in 2004 and four in 2012. He also started every game in five seasons and was not in the starting lineup in just seven total games he played from 2005 to 2013.

In his twelve seasons with the Steelers, Ike Taylor recorded 636 tackles (518 solo), three sacks, 134 passes defensed, 14 interceptions, two forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries in 174 games.

Statistically speaking, his best season was 2005, when he won the first Super Bowl with the Steelers. He achieved career highs with 91 tackles (75 solo), 20 defended passes and two fumble recoveries.

Ike Taylor also did a great job for the Steelers in the postseason, intercepting a pass in the victory over the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game and making seven tackles, two pass deflections and an interception in the Super Bowl victory over the Seahawks.
