Katz’s, the famous New York delicatessen, opens in West Hollywood – NBC Los Angeles

What you should know

  • Katz’s at Bar Next Door
  • The West Hollywood restaurant serves New York deli’s famous Pastrami on Rye; pick it up at Bar Next Door or have it delivered via Postmates.
  • Saturday, June 29th from 11am to 6pm; $25 for half sandwich, $45 for full sandwich

Katz’s Delicatessen, which has been perfecting pastrami sandwiches since the 1880s at 205 E. Houston Street on New York’s Lower East Side, is quite a distance from West Hollywood.

In fact, it’s about 2,800 miles, and how many pastrami sandwiches it would take to cover that considerable distance is anyone’s guess.

But Southern Californians don’t need a statewide sandwich chain to get in touch with Katz’s: Bar Next Door is partnering with Postmates for a one-day Katz’s Stravaganza, a pop-up that’s all about the esteemed deli’s world-famous Pastrami on Rye.

Head to the Sunset Boulevard hangout from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to pick up your sandwich—pickles and Katz’s homemade mustard are part of this meaty specialty—or order through Postmates.

There will also be merchandise for sale to show your love for Katz.

Please note that the number of sandwiches and merchandise available for purchase is limited.

If you’re planning on stopping by the bar and treating yourself to a big slice of NYC, try this: A Coors Banquet cocktail is served alongside a Dirty Mixed Brine Martini shot. The price? $16.

You may have eaten at Katz’s while visiting or staying in New York; if not, you’ve probably seen it in dozens of food documentaries that have featured the historic eatery, and of course, in the “I’ll have what she’ll have” scene in 1989’s When Harry Met Sally…

If we could follow a flavorful highway filled with sandwiches on our way to Katz’s, we would do so within a New York minute.

But there’s no need to build a hearty highway: The world-famous delicatessen is bringing its mustard-y moxie to West Hollywood for seven hearty hours on the last Saturday in June.
