I was harassed by a very famous director: Nadia Jamil

As the #MeToo cases shake the world, it will come as no surprise that allegations of abuse are also being raised in Pakistan’s entertainment industry. In a recent interview with Iffar Omar, popular television actress and activist Nadia Jamil dropped a bombshell when she revealed that she had been harassed by a prominent person – but without mentioning him by name.

“I was bullied in the industry by a very famous director,” explained the Damsa Actor.

Nadia, who had suffered abuse herself, added that she had decided to distance herself from anything that could destroy her internally, even if that meant turning down high-profile work. To prove her stance, Nadia referred to a recent project that was recommended to her by Naumaan Ijaz. When Nadia learned that the man who had harassed her could also be involved in it, she resigned with immediate effect.

“I just said no,” Nadia said. “It’s not worth putting myself in a situation where I’m surrounded by toxic people. I just stay away from it.”

Nadia added that she regretted not publicly exposing her abuser at the time. “I wonder how many other girls had to suffer because I didn’t say anything,” she mused.

However, Nadia’s reasons for her silence are convincing. “I’m waiting for my sons to grow up,” she claims. “At the moment they are too hot-headed. I’m waiting for them to calm down and mature so they don’t go and tear him to pieces.”

A grim look appeared on Nadia’s face as she remembered her trauma. “He’s a pretty sleazy guy,” she concluded.
