Alexander Zverev had a message for Taylor Fritz after the match

Alexander Zverev had a message for Taylor Fritz after he squandered a two-set lead in his fourth-round match at Wimbledon on Monday, losing in five sets 4:6, 6:7(4), 6:4, 7:6(3), 6:3.

Zverev won the first two sets but lost the next three – the second time that has happened to him at a Grand Slam this year.

After losing the match, Zverev spoke to Fritz at the net during the customary post-match handshake. The German player later gave the media an idea of what he had said to Fritz.

“His team is extremely respectful. I think his coach, his physiotherapist and also his second coach are extremely respectful. I think there are maybe a few other people in the box who maybe aren’t from the tennis world, who maybe don’t watch every single game,” Zverev said after his match. “They were a little bit over the top. That’s OK. No problems. No drama. He fought back from two sets to zero down, so they’re obviously all excited, very pumped up, yes. But no problems with Taylor. I think Taylor is a great guy. I have absolutely no problems with him.”

This is the second time in his career that Fritz has reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon.

Zverev has never made it past the fourth round at Wimbledon. He also squandered a two-set lead against Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals of the Australian Open this year.
