Man arrested and charged in death of North Carolina woman found in Edmond

Elyse Betz’s family received a devastating call last week learning that Elyse had been found dead nearly 1,500 miles from home.

A man she had only known for a few weeks is accused of killing her.

Family members say that Elyse Betz, only 30 years old at the time, was incredibly successful as an engineer.

On Friday, her body was discovered face down in front of this warehouse near East 2nd Street and South Coltrane Road.

According to a court document, her vehicle was discovered at a hotel less than a mile away; in her room, police tracked down and arrested federal fugitive Kyle Fedus.

Investigators say he claimed to be her boyfriend, which her sister Laura Beckman denies.

“I believe she was kidnapped through manipulation and then murdered,” Beckman said.

Laura says Elyse was struggling with the death of her mother and was undergoing alcohol treatment, where she met Fedus.

While in custody, according to court documents, Fedus, on the run from the law, told police that he and Elyse had made a suicide pact, agreeing to “take a lethal dose of drugs to commit suicide” rather than go to jail.

According to police, Fedus claimed that the cocktail of meth and fentanyl was fatal only for his alleged girlfriend.

“If you knew my sister was dead and you were supposed to be dead, why did you leave her there? Why didn’t you call 911? And if you were supposed to kill yourself, why didn’t you kill yourself,” Beckman said.

Her family now vows to seek justice.

Investigators say Fedus failed to call 911 after Elyse’s death.

Instead, it is said, he left a voicemail to the camp asking them to check the side of the building where Elyse’s body was found.

Fedus was wanted on an unrelated federal arrest warrant for violating probation.

He had previously pleaded guilty to a robbery in North Carolina in 2018.
