Shaboozey has his first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for “A bar song (Tipsy),” the publication reported on Monday (July 8). The record was originally released in April and its accompanying music video has been viewed over 69 million times on YouTube.

This was a first for the Virginia native, and he is also the only black artist to top both the Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts. He is also the second black artist overall to achieve this feat, just months after Beyoncé’s “TEXAS HOLDEMThe popularity of “ rose rapidly.

“I’ve been wanting to turn a song from the 2000s around for some time,” said Shaboozey Billboard. “I just said, ‘Everyone at the bar is getting tipsy,’ and then we were like, ‘Oh, shit!’ The producer picked up the guitar and started playing the chords and then we started writing and just having fun and being creative.”

The chart hit comes from the Virginia native’s debut album. Where I was is not where I am going. The 12-song offering includes Noah Cyrus, BigXthaPlug and Paul Cauthen, who appeared on “My Fault,” “Drink Don’t Need No Mix,” and “Last Of My Kind,” respectively.

It is also worth noting that Shaboozey’s success came immediately after his appearance on the COWBOY CARTER Tracks “SPAGHETTII” and “SWEET * HONEY * BUCKIIN'”. He explained the collaborative process: “Everyone works at the same time and in different rooms. I came over a few days later and recorded some parts. (Beyoncé) listened to them later and liked them. It’s cool that you don’t know until the last moment if your part made it or not.”

“That’s how Beyoncé likes to put things together, taking different parts of different things and different transitions and always experimenting with the sound, so very free-form over there,” Shaboozey added.
