Four-star forward Ivan Taylor transfers from Notre Dame to Michigan in 2025

Sherrone Moore, LaMar Morgan and the Michigan Wolverines have just scored a recruiting hit: They have poached 2025 four-star safety Ivan Taylor from Notre Dame.

Ivan is 6’0″ and weighs 175 pounds. He is the son of former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Ike Taylor. Ivan plays high school football at West Orange High School in Winter Garden, Florida. He committed to the Irish in December but kept his options open to commit to other schools. In June, he officially visited Michigan and Alabama, indicating a great chance of transferring.

Taylor was originally offered by Steve Clinkscale while he was still in Ann Arbor, but Morgan picked up right where Clink left off. According to On3’s EJ Holland ($), Morgan traveled to Florida during the spring evaluation period to meet with Taylor and his family, which led to the Wolverines securing his official visit.

Head coach Sherrone Moore also played a crucial role in this move, as Taylor had good things to say about him after his visit.

“Me, my mom and dad really liked (Moore),” Taylor Holland said after his official visit. “We like what he does, how he builds the program and the people he hires. It was a great conversation. We talked about how I feel and what’s going to happen in the future.”

Andrew Ivins of 247Sports scouted Taylor in May 2023 and had this to say:

A safety prospect with a high IQ, elite NFL bloodlines and a top-notch testing profile. Measured 6’1″ and 175 pounds in the spring before his junior season. He ran the 4.5-second 40-yard dash and 4.25-second short shuttle that day. Quick on his feet and very agile. Has worked in a two-man system for most of his prep career and shown he can get where he needs to go. Competitive at the catch point and turns his head well to find the football. Solid tackler in the open field at this stage who will pounce and carry the ball on the ground. Needs to get a little better at breaking blocks and weaving through traffic, though. Needs to put on some bulk and improve his playmaking at some point, but should be viewed as a potential multi-year starter at a top-25 program. Will likely find a home in the third level of defense, but is tenacious enough in man coverage to potentially earn a look as an inside corner on Saturdays.

Taylor is the first safety to join Michigan’s class of 2025, while four-star Kainoa Winston is slated to start as a nickelback.

Ranked 54th overall in the 247Sports Composite, Taylor is also the No. 6 safety and No. 9 prospect from the state of Florida. As a junior last fall, Taylor totaled 50 tackles, six tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and one interception. Check out highlights from his junior season in the video below.
