Lainey Wilson releases “Twisters” soundtrack song “Out of Oklahoma”

Lainey Wilson released her song “Out Of Oklahoma” and accompanying music video on Thursday, the latest single from the soundtrack of Lee Isaac Chung’s upcoming film. Twistersthe sequel to 1996 Twisters.

In “Out Of Oklahoma,” Wilson sings about “trying to stay between the line between who I am and who I used to be” as she navigates the hectic final years of her rise to country superstardom. Although she is not from the Sooner State herself, she uses Oklahoma—where Twisters presumably takes place – as a metaphor for her older self, which remains with her as she sings about how “you can’t take Oklahoma’s home away from you.”

“It’s crazy how life throws a topic at you, isn’t it? My life in the last few years has felt like a tornado… that’s why I wrote my new album Whirlwind”, Wilson wrote in her Instagram post announcing the song. “So when I got the opportunity to write a song for the new Twisters “I really wanted to make a film, it was a challenge I couldn’t pass up. When I read Kate’s story, I discovered many parallels between our lives. We both have wild and crazy careers, but they give us a sense of home.”

Twisters is a direct sequel to the 1996 disaster film starring Helen Hunt. The sequel stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glenn Powell, and is scheduled for release on July 19. The accompanying soundtrack album will be released the same day.
