Israel’s war against Gaza live: Two hospitals in Gaza City closed on Israeli orders | News on the Israel-Palestine conflict

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Israel’s recent evacuation orders for parts of Gaza city would affect more than 60 schools where displaced Palestinians have found shelter, as well as two hospitals, six medical care posts and two primary health care centers.

Dujarric said humanitarian workers reported that staff and patients had left hospitals in and around the areas evacuated by Israeli forces. People who had already been displaced by previous evacuation orders and fighting were being forced to flee again, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

He also said that “active hostilities, damaged roads, access restrictions and the lack of public order and security” are hampering the transport of aid along the main humanitarian cargo route from the Karem Abu Salem crossing, which Israel calls the Kerem Shalom crossing, to the town of Khan Younis in southern Gaza and then on to Deir el-Balah in central Gaza.

The result was critical food shortages and reduced food rations in the center and south of the Gaza Strip, he said.

“Only three of the 18 bakeries that our humanitarian colleagues in Gaza are supporting are still operating, all in Deir el-Balah,” said Dujarric. “Meanwhile, fuel shortages have forced nine bakeries that were only operating at partial capacity to cease operations altogether.”
