Sam’s Clubs Plus member benefit is undergoing major changes and customers are not happy

Sam’s Club Plus members need to prepare for a big change when it comes to one important benefit.

Starting August 19, Plus members will no longer receive free shipping on any orders that Sam’s Club lists on its website. Instead, customers must spend at least $50 before tax to qualify for free or same-day shipping. If they spend less than $50, they’ll pay a flat shipping fee of $8.

For those who aren’t aware of this benefit, members who live within 15 miles of a Sam’s Club location are offered same-day delivery. Previously, there was an $8 fee for all same-day deliveries.

Regular Sam’s Club members can now enjoy free pickup of their orders when they spend more than $50. Previously, they were charged a flat $4 fee for all orders – this still applies to orders under $50.

On X, some Sam’s Club customers complained about the upcoming changes to shipping benefits. One wrote, “The elimination of free shipping is a joke, right? How awful! Time to downgrade my membership or just quit the club.”

Another angry Plus member shared, “When we became Plus members, we were offered ‘Free Shipping’ so we said, ‘Okay, let’s join.’ This move is complete nonsense. Without this benefit, why should we stay Plus members??? We see no benefit for the cost. And I add, ‘Starting August 18th,’ when you start charging…”

Another angry Sam’s Club customer stated on X: “Since @SamsClub eliminated free shipping (without spending $50), Plus membership can no longer be the only reason I stayed. Now it’s time to move on when my subscription is up. I hope this backfires on them, I’m honestly not happy. I’m out.”
