Resident Evil 9 has much better stories to tell without Leon, Chris or Ethan

Resident Evil 9 has much better stories to tell without Leon, Chris or Ethan

Summary

  • Resident Evil 9 could introduce new characters or bring back forgotten ones, offering new perspectives and storylines.
  • Characters like Billy Coen and Natalia Kord have fascinating backstories and potential for unique storylines.
  • A new protagonist or a focus on underrated characters like Claire and Jill could give the Resident Evil series a new lease of life.

With Resident Evil 9 is in the works, players are probably wondering who will replace Ethan Winter as the game’s protagonist, and many are probably hoping it is not Leon or Chris. After his death in Resident Evil: Villageit seems unlikely that Ethan will return as a hero for the next game. This opens the door for Capcom to do something new with the series, as they did with Resident Evil 7. The resident Evil The series has many possible directions and it would be a shame if they didn’t try to branch out further.

One direction many resident Evil Fans would probably appreciate if the game focused on a character who hasn’t spent much time in the spotlight yet. There are many characters throughout the franchise who haven’t appeared in a game in a while or never had the chance to be the main character. The recently announced Resident Evil 9 could be the perfect place to reintroduce some of these abandoned characters and give them the attention they deserve.

The Resident Evil franchise has many forgotten characters

Characters like Billy Coen and Natalia Kord have open storylines

The protagonists of Resident Evil Zero, Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen, move through a crowded hall full of unused furniture.

Between eight main games and numerous spin-off titles resident Evil The series has introduced many memorable characters. While fans still remember these characters, the teams behind the games don’t seem to remember their existence. Several playable protagonists appear in a spinoff or two, but then disappear for years and never appear again. That’s a shame, because some of these characters would be perfect to dig for new stories.

A good example is Billy Coen, who first appeared in Resident Evil 0. Coen was a former soldier who was used as a scapegoat for a failed mission and sentenced to death. After helping Rebecca Chambers to explain the events of Resident Evil 0Chambers helps Billy fake his death and go into hiding. Coen has not been seen sincebut he seems to be the perfect candidate for one of the resident Evil‘s current storylines. In Resident Evil VillageChris Redfield mentioned that the BSAA has become a corrupt organization. Who better to fight a corrupt system than someone like Billy?

Another seemingly abandoned character that some players would like to see is Natalia Kord. In a thread by Reddit user DonutReasonable528, several players discuss their desire to see what became of Natalia. The last players saw her; she showed signs of slowly turning into Albert Wesker, whose mind had been implanted into hers. The continuation with Natalia could be an interesting twist in a resident Evil protagonist, as it would open the door for body horror when Wesker begins to take control. This would also Give players a protagonist with unique powers.

Even some main characters haven’t had a new game in a long time

Claire and Jill have each only played in one main game

Apart from more obscure resident Evil Characters, even some of the main protagonists of the series, had not had a chance to shine for a long time. Claire Redfield, for example, was no longer the protagonist of a main character resident Evil Title since Resident Evil 2. Although RE2 was recently remade, it’s been a while since Claire was the star of a new story in the main series.

The same goes for another main actress in the series, Jill Valentine. Jill may have appeared in Resident Evil 5but she was a brainwashed antagonist most of the time. Like Claire, Jill was only the playable protagonist in one of the main titles in the game series. Comparing this to Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, who were both playable in three main titles, it is clear that these characters do not receive the same level of attention. Even Ethan Winter, a new character introduced in Resident Evil 7starred in two games of the main series.

Alternatively, if Capcom does not want to focus on one of the already established characters in Resident Evil 9they could simply Create a brand new protagonist For the game. Resident Evil 7 was a huge adrenaline rush into the series after the disappointment of Resident Evil 6also because it felt like a new beginning. Resident Evil 9 equally new with a similar standalone feel would probably be a good way to experience some of the Resident Evil 7‘s magic. It would also be nice to see the series move forward after so many remakes.

At the moment there are not too many details about Resident Evil 9. However, it will hopefully take the series in a new direction. At the very least, it would be nice to see some characters that fell by the wayside reintroduced.
