Michigan Football secures signing of tight end Andrew Olesh

Michigan has received a commitment from four-star tight end Andrew Olesh.

Olesh, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound star out of Center Valley (Pa.) Southern Lehigh, had 30 offers and officially visited Michigan, Alabama, Penn State and Florida, but his decision was largely made between the Wolverines and Crimson Tide.

This is a big achievement for tight ends coach Steve Casula, who only joined the team in February. Olesh was previously recruited by Grant Newsome, who continued to recruit Olesh even after he moved to the offensive line.

“Two things that stood out to me the most is that when I was there and talked to the players, I was able to play with them and they’re all great guys,” Olesh said after his official visit. “Another thing about Michigan is the path to playing time. Coach Casula walked me through the lineup and there’s a good chance for me to play if I work, but they don’t guarantee me playing time.”

Michigan’s success at the tight end position, with current starter Colston Loveland considered one of the best in the country and on track to be selected in the early rounds of the draft, has helped them target the top national recruits at the position. They already have the edge on national recruits like Brock Harris and JC Anderson in the 2026 class.

They also have a 2025 commitment from Tennessee in Eli Owens, who can play multiple roles including H-back and fullback. Olesh now brings a skill set that should mesh well with Owens.

As a wide receiver in high school, Olesh caught 53 passes for 972 yards and 10 touchdowns during his junior year.

“He looks to be 6’10” and has the build to carry extra weight when he gets to college,” 247Sports analyst Greg Biggins said. “He has huge hands and is one of the more natural pass catchers in this class. He runs well and shows both initial quickness on his releases and the speed needed to outrun a secondary. He lines up mostly on the outside and is a smooth pass catcher who can change speeds and knows how to set up a defender. He has a nice start getting in and out of his breaks and can break away late. Great catch radius due to his length and ability to use his hands, and he runs well after the catch. He doesn’t need to block much right now, and adding some bulk and strength should be a priority, but he has a lot of potential and should be a tough target for opposing linebackers and safeties at the next level.”

The Wolverines now have 15 commitments for their 2025 recruiting class after the Wolverines rejected Florida safety Ivan Taylor from his commitment to Notre Dame on Monday.

With the signing of Olesh, the Wolverines move up to No. 4 in the Big Ten and No. 11 overall in the 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings.
