Live-action adaptation of “Like a Dragon: Yakuza” to be released on Prime Video

Prime Video is expected to be released Like a Dragon: Yakuzaa live-action adaptation of SEGA’s globally successful game series as an Amazon Original. Yakuza: Like a Dragonon October 25. Director: Masaharu Take (100 Yen Love) and Takimoto Kengo (Kamen Teacher) In the series, Ryoma Takeuchi plays Kazuma Kiryu.

Published in 2005, Yakuza The game series depicts the lives of fierce and passionate gangsters in Kamurochō, a fictional district modeled after the violent Kabukichō of the Shinjuku district. Set in both 1995 and 2025, the series follows the life, childhood friends, and impact of the choices of Kazuma Kiryu, a fearsome and unparalleled Yakuza warrior with a strong sense of justice, duty, and humanity.

Speaking about his upcoming role, Takeuchi said, “I’m truly honored to have the opportunity to play Kazuma Kiryu, a beloved character and game series. I felt strongly that I was willing to put my life on the line. Audiences will enjoy the show’s human drama and conflicts unfolding around Kazuma Kiryu. Also, be sure to check out Kiryu’s intense fight scenes with the dragon tattoo on his back.”

“Since the day I first put pen to paper on the original script of ‘Yakuza,’ I’ve never thought about revisiting my work on the series,” added Masayoshi Yokoyama, head of Ryugagotoku Studio and executive producer. “That’s because I understand all too well the challenges and difficulties that come with remaking a finished title. However, if I were ever sent back in time by some kind of cosmic joke, this would be the experience I’d want to create. If I had to be put through the wringer anyway, I’d want to make the most compelling versions of Kamurochō and Kazuma Kiryu that I could – and this show has it all. There’s no question that Prime Video’s Like a Dragon: Yakuza will be another milestone for the Like a Dragon series. While the games let you experience their world through a subjective lens, this adaptation will be the ultimate objective way to enjoy the show.”

Sean Crouch and Nakamura Yugo wrote the screenplay and story. Erik Barmack, Roberto Grande and Joshua Long are executive producers. The Fool is producing.

Like a Dragon: Yakuza Streaming on Prime Video begins October 25th.
