Tulsa’s gathering place featured in National Geographic travel book

“Gathering Place” is now part of a National Geographic travel book.

The book “Here Not There” explores vacation spots around the world and includes the park as an option.

Gathering Place is featured alongside hundreds of other destinations in National Geographic’s latest book, Here Not There, which highlights unexpected vacation spots that are also affordable.

It highlights Gathering Place as an urban green space and even compares it to Central Park in New York City.

Julio Baldin, the park’s executive director, says it’s great to see the Gathering Place continue to receive this recognition.

“Since I was young, National Geographic has been a really important source for all things green and amazing and exciting, not just in our country but around the world. So it was really exciting when they visited the Gathering Place and were blown away by the space,” Badin said.

From paddle boats to unique playgrounds, there’s something for everyone at Amy Gallagher’s family home. She was visiting from out of town and says it’s the perfect place for her kids.

“We will definitely come back because even after the short time we have spent here, I understand why there is this national recognition because it is a super great project. I mean, the families are just so happy,” she said.

The book is available in stores and the author will return to Tulsa in the fall.
