Charlie XCX, Ice Spice and other battle boos against Taylor Swift

Artists like Charlie XCX, Ice Spice and Morgan Wallen have to deal with fans booing Taylor Swift at their performances.

Taylor Swift may have a huge fan base, but her critics have been pretty vocal at other artists’ concerts lately. Charli XCX, at her recent performance in São Paulo, called out to fans who yelled “Taylor Swift is dead!” in Portuguese during her set. When Ice Spice fans booed the rapper’s performance at Rolling Loud Europe as she began performing “Karma,” her remix collaboration performance with Swift, she behaved herself and blew them a kiss.

And when Morgan Wallen jokingly remarked at his performance in Indianapolis in April that his performance would be the most attended concert at Lucas Oil Stadium until Taylor Swift performed there, fans reacted angrily, booing the pop star’s name. “We don’t have to boo, we don’t have to boo,” Wallen quickly interjected, though he then expressed his gratitude to his fans for their support. “I appreciate that – but I know you all have my back.”

“Can the people who do this please stop doing it online or at my shows,” Charlie XCX wrote on her Instagram story after Swift’s negative chants at her PARTYGIRL DJ set in Brazil. “It’s the opposite of what I want and it bothers me that anyone thinks there’s a place for it in this community. I will not tolerate it.”

Charli’s fans have been quick to attack Swift since she released an exclusive UK digital version of her album The “Tortured Poets” sectionapparently to prevent Charli’s latest album, “Brat,” from reaching number one in the UK charts the week of its release.

The apparent rivalry was further fueled by the fact that the English singer is engaged to The 1975 drummer George Daniel, while Swift previously dated the band’s lead singer Matty Healy. The lyrics of Charli’s song “Sympathy is a Knife” appear to be written about Swift, referring to how she doesn’t want to see some nameless girl “acting out her insecurities” backstage at her boyfriend’s show.

Meanwhile, Ice Spice and Taylor Swift, whose collaboration on the “Karma” remix reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 when it was released last year, have been vocal in their support for each other. The 24-year-old rapper has said the 34-year-old pop star was a shining example for her as she rose to fame in her own career. “When I was in the studio with Taylor, I’ll never forget that,” Ice said Billboard“She told me, ‘No matter what happens, just keep making music and everything will be fine.'”

Morgan Wallen clearly didn’t expect his fans to react negatively to his casual mention of Swift at his Indianapolis stop in April during his One Night at a Time Tour. “They told me right before I took the stage that this was by far the best attended concert in the history of this building,” Wallen told fans after just reaching a similar milestone in London. “I’ll be saying that until Taylor Swift comes to town in the fall,” he joked, predicting that the pop star would likely surpass his attendance record when her Eras Tour stops at Lucas Oil Stadium for three nights in November.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is currently taking her through Europe, culminating with a series of shows at Wembley Stadium in London in August, before she returns to North America for the final leg of the tour, which reaches its grand finale in December.
