F1 teaser released: Filmed for IMAX with an unknown Sony Action Cinema camera

The filmmakers at TGM have just released the teaser of their next project titled F1. The title and the teaser both seem to have been released in the same second. First, it is a “Filmed For IMAX” film, shot like TGM (Top Gun: Maverick) but with an unknown Sony cinema camera. Check out the teaser below.

F1 is an upcoming American sports action drama film produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, directed by Joseph Kosinski, and photographed by cinematographer Claudio Miranda. Music is by Hans Zimmer. That would be the winning TGM team (Top Gun: Maverick). The story follows Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a Formula 1 driver who raced in the 1990s and had a terrible accident that forced him to retire from Formula 1 and compete in other disciplines. The owner and friend of a Formula 1 team (Javier Bardem) contacts Hayes and asks him to come out of retirement and mentor the prodigy Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) in the Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP). We have written many articles about the hypotheses behind its creation and wondered about the title. We thought it was Apex. However, a few hours ago, Formula 1 and IMAX released a teaser that revealed the clear title: F1. Let’s first look at the IMAX teaser:

As mentioned, the filmmakers of F1 are the same ones who made the action masterpiece TGM (Top Gun: Maverick), so the same filming techniques are used. Moreover, the teaser shows this very well. Kosinski and Miranda implements four Unknown Sony Cinema cameras with PTZ Skills in the F1 (or F2) cockpit. In contrast to the six Sony VENICE behind TGM are PTZ standalone cameras and not Rialto units. This means that these cameras can rotate and follow the action, as you can see in the trailer. In addition, Kosinski said that only four cameras could be used because they didn’t want to slow the car down by compromising its aerodynamic capabilities. Sony hasn’t said anything about these cameras yet. Now it’s time to reveal some details, Sony! We know that these are 6K cameras, and it looks like an improved version of the Cinema PTZ – FR7 (that’s 4K). If so, it could be a Sony Cinema Line 6K PTZ camera. Check out the screenshots below that show this realistic FOV (Field of View) just like in TGM. Anyway, it would be interesting to know more about the codec, since it wasn’t X-OCN in TGM. Maybe these new Cinema PTZ 6K have a X-OCN The IMAX screen can therefore receive it well since it is a project filmed for IMAX.
