Here in the land of 10,000 lakes we are currently in the middle of mosquito season.

Mosquitoes, ticks, flies – they were all brutal this year. Probably due to the excessive amount of rain we had to contend with and/or the unseasonably warm winter. Ugh.

We all try to squeeze as much fun as possible into the three short months of summer by doing everything we can outside, but the last thing we want is itchy bites, right?

Did you know that there are actually thousands of species of mosquitoes? That’s right!! According to Minnesota’s Metropolitan Mosquito Control District (MMCD), there are over 3,000 species of mosquitoes worldwide, and here in Minnesota, about 51 different species are native.

I have no idea what it is, but the mosquitoes just can’t get enough of me. No matter how much repellent I put on, they’ll find me. Maybe it’s my blood type. It definitely isn’t summer in the North Star State if I’m not being eaten alive by these little beasties.

There’s no hope for me, but maybe this will help you! Apparently there’s a lot more than just spray to keep them away. From the colors you wear to the plants you have in your yard, here are some tips to avoid Minnesota’s state bird.
