The Amherst Lions Club is offering free early detection vision screenings for children ages 6 months to 8 years during its “Walking on Wednesday” event on July 10 in downtown Amherst, according to a news release.

The screenings will be held from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Studio Q Photography, 135 Park Ave., the press release said.

Michael Ciu, the owner of Studio Q Photography, is letting the Lions Club use his premises to conduct the vision tests because the bright light outside, even in the shade, is too intense to operate the equipment, the press release states.

During the “Walkin’ on Wednesday” event in June, the Amherst Lions Club conducted four screenings, and two of them indicated the need to see an eye doctor for further evaluation, the news release said.

According to the press release, the Amherst Lions Club will also collect used glasses. These will be recycled and distributed to those in need.
