Christopher L. “Chris” Montoya 1960 – 2024

HOLYROOD – Christopher L. “Chris” Montoya, 64, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024. He was born April 28, 1960, in Wichita, Kansas, to Christopher A. Montoya and Kay Krauter. Chris married Verna M. Krier on August 14, 1986, in Topeka, Kansas. He retired as a supervisor at Oneok, Inc. in Bushton, Kansas. He was a long-time volunteer with the Holyrood Fire Department, retiring as assistant fire chief.

Chris is survived by his fiancée, Tracie Schneider-Gauntt of Topeka, Kansas; his children, Kenny Montoya (Jolene Savolt) of Kansas City, Kansas, Candi Smith (Fred) of Ellsworth, Kansas, Kyle Montoya (Megan) of Manhattan, Kansas, Jason Montoya (Angela) of Wichita, Kansas, and Amber Montoya of Holyrood; 11 grandchildren; and his siblings, Mike Montoya (Renee) of Salina, Kansas, Paul Montoya of Salina, Tom Montoya (Lorraine) of Great Bend, Kansas, Karen Gieselman of Holyrood, Sue Julian (Jeff) of Skiatook, Oklahoma, and Theresa Parsons (Rocky) of Owasso, Oklahoma. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Verna Montoya, and brother Steve Montoya.

Visitation: 1 p.m.-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth. The family will be present from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Funeral service: 10 a.m., Thursday, July 11, 2024, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Holyrood. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
