Northeast Colorado native and local author Luann Atkin Koester’s debut novel, Hawk’s Cry, The Story of a Cheyenne Hero, is a finalist in the Colorado Author’s League Book Awards.

Hawk’s Cry is a middle grade historical novel inspired by a Cheyenne boy named Little Hawk who is credited with saving the lives of many Cheyenne and Arapaho women and children at the Battle of Summit Springs on July 11, 1869. Hawk’s Cry is available at the Overland Trail Museum and Zoe’s Nook in Sterling, the Orphanage in Yuma, and Books on Main in Fort Morgan.

The Colorado Authors League (CAL) was founded in 1931 to support and promote a community of published authors while connecting with and providing value to the reading world. Finalists in all literary categories will be announced on July 21 at the Washington.
