Hamilton’s tears break out as famous victory ‘snatches’ Schumacher’s record – international media reactions

With his victory at the British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton finally ended his 946-day winless streak and broke the record for most wins at a single racetrack.

The seven-time world champion mastered mixed conditions to claim the 104th victory of his career and his first since the introduction of the current regulations.

Reigning world champion Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Lando Norris joined him on the podium at the Silverstone International Circuit – it was an emotional podium finish.

But how did the rest of the world react to the race? Find out as RacingNews365 takes you through the headlines of some of the biggest global publications.

🇬🇧 The Times – “British Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton ends 945-day wait for victory”

Not surprisingly, in the UK, the publication The times has focused on Hamilton’s victory. The win came on the 946th day since his last win before the British GP.

Before Hamilton’s home race, he had not won since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Of course, he should have won the season finale in Abu Dhabi, but then former race director Michael Masi made a controversial decision.

🇮🇹 La Gazzetta dello Sport – “Hamilton’s tears: “I thought I couldn’t handle it anymore.””

In Italy, The Sports Newspaper has also covered Hamilton’s victory in detail. The Mercedes driver is of course moving to Ferrari next year and his victory at the British GP could be his last for the Silver Arrows.

After crossing the finish line, Hamilton appeared incredibly emotional over the team radio and could be heard in tears.

During his media appearances after the race, the 39-year-old was close to tears and admitted that many negative thoughts had been going through his head in recent years.

🇫🇷 L’Equipe – “I’ve never experienced anything like this,” Lewis Hamilton is relieved to be back on the winning track at Silverstone’

There is a topic in the global media, because Hamilton is also dominating the headlines in France. French newspaper The team has focused on the British driver, who does not expect to end his winless streak at home.

Notably, Hamilton also told the French broadcaster that it was his first win in an F1 race since the death of Queen Elizabeth II, while “God Save the King” was playing.

It was an emotional victory for Hamilton as it was his last British GP with Mercedes, a manufacturer that has supported him since he was 13 years old.

🇳🇱 De Telegraaf – “McLaren leadership in the dust after wrong decisions at Silverstone”

In the Netherlands, The Telegraph has paid close attention to McLaren’s costly strategic errors. The first was McLaren’s decision not to double-stacking in heavy rain.

Oscar Piastri was sacrificed in many ways as he had to do an extra lap on slick tyres compared to everyone else, despite the track being wet, which meant he had no chance of winning and getting on the podium.

The second crucial mistake came when the track dried out and the drivers switched back to slicks. Although McLaren had a fresh set of mediums, the team equipped Lando Norris with a set of softs in an attempt to challenge Lewis Hamilton for the win.

Instead, Norris’ tires quickly faded and the Briton fell to third place behind Max Verstappen. The medium tires could have won Norris the race.

🇩🇪 BILD – “Hamilton snatches Schumi’s next record!”

In Germany, PICTURE highlighted that Hamilton broke a record he shares with fellow seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.

Before the British GP, Hamilton and Schumacher held the record for most wins at one venue. Their joint record was eight wins; however, Hamilton has now won the British GP for a historic ninth time.

In addition, Hamilton’s victory means that Mercedes has won two races in a row for the first time since 2021.

🇦🇺 Herald Sun – “Brad Pitt image angers Formula 1 world after British Grand Prix”

And finally in Australia, newspaper the Herald Sun has written about fans’ frustration with Hollywood king Brad Pitt.

The actor filmed again during the British GP for the upcoming F1 switch – ironically called “F1”. Filming even took place in the media area after the race.

Both Pitt and co-star Damson Idris were seen walking through the media area behind real drivers and giving fake interviews for the film, much to the dismay of fans. Notably, Pitt filmed behind Norris while conducting a candid interview with the McLaren driver.
