A street festival in Detroit took a horrific turn Sunday when gunfire erupted, killing two young people and wounding 19, police said.

Revelers between the ages of 17 and 27 were hit by bullets around 2:30 a.m. in the Mohican Regent neighborhood in the 13,000 block of Rossini near Gratiot Avenue, police told Fox 2 Detroit.

The victims who lost their lives are a 21-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman. One person was in critical condition on Monday, while the other victims are expected to recover from their injuries.

Detroit Police Chief James White said at a press conference on Monday that police are investigating and no arrests have been made so far.

The shooting is the latest in this community in recent weeks.

“This is not normal,” activist Sandra Turner Handy said of Sunday’s attack, Fox 2 reported. “We need to be proactive here. We need to be in the community to rouse residents and get them to fight against this kind of violence.”
