“Treason cannot be written without tea” by Rebecca Thorne

Reyna is one of the Queen’s bodyguards and comes from a long line of women who have done the same job. Queen Tilaine is known for her ruthlessness and has more than a few enemies, so the assassin at the Queen’s party was not unexpected. Reyna has dealt with assassins before, as she is a trained and quite skilled killer, but the assassin at this party is about to take Reyna’s life, and the ruthless Queen would have let her have it. This was the last straw for Reyna, and she commits treason by running away. Of course, she doesn’t have a fully formed plan, but one thing is certain: Kianthe, Reyna’s secret friend who is also the most powerful mage in existence.

Kianthe deeply detests Queen Tilaine and has begged Reyna to run away with her to open a bookstore and tea shop and live a comfortable little life. Kianthe herself has been looking for any excuse to shirk her duties as a mage as Arcandor. After Reyna escapes and Kianthe finds her with the help of the two moonstones she had enchanted, the two set out to make their dreams come true. They settle in Tawny, a small town on the outskirts of the Queen’s kingdom and in the icy tundra next to Dragon Land. Even with false names and enough money to get things started, they have a steep road ahead as they try to win over the townspeople. Of course, there are also the problems of Reyna’s injuries from the assassin, the bandits who continue to frequent the building Reyna and Kianthe had seized, and the dragon attacks.

This book had just enough action to keep me interested, enough tea and books to calm me down, and enough puns to make me giggle frequently. It’s a lovely read for anyone looking to escape reality for a while.
