Fantasy Baseball Value Picks Today: Top DraftKings MLB DFS Bargains for July 8

Fantasy Baseball Value Picks Today: Top DraftKings MLB DFS Bargains for July 8

With just one week left until the All-Star break, Major League Baseball has seven games on Monday, with two early games taking place before the five-game main schedule on DraftKings. The main games will conclude at 6:40 p.m. ET when the Tigers host the Guardians. This game is one of three divisional games on the schedule, including the game between the Twins and the White Sox, also from the AL Central.

Even with only 10 teams in the player pool, there are several strong options available that can help save on salary but still offer good upside. My top three players were all recently called up to the major leagues, and these rookies are still very undervalued compared to their potential upside.

The cheap starting pitcher options this Monday are all high-risk, but of all of them, Diaz has the most potential. The 23-year-old right-hander will make his MLB debut and has a tough opponent against the Braves, but he has shown a lot of potential in the minors this season due to his punchout potential. He began the year in Double-A with the Amarillo Sod Poodles, going 3-5 with a 4.33 ERA. However, he posted an impressive 77 strikeouts in 54 innings. After being promoted to Triple-A Reno, he went 1-3 in four starts for the Aces with a 3.27 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 22 innings. That kind of strikeout potential gives him high potential despite being unproven and facing tough opponents. Diaz probably won’t pitch long in the game, as he averaged just over five innings per start in the minors, but his 33.2% strikeout rate makes him the best bargain option on the list. Ryan Feltner ($5,500) And Chris Flexen ($6,500) are much more well-known names, but Diaz’s pure stuff is better and that makes him a better option.

Lee has been in the MLB for less than a week, but has already started putting up solid numbers for the Twins and fantasy players. In his five games, the Twins’ top prospect has batted 9-for-19 with a double, a home run and an impressive six RBIs. He also has a wOBA of .486 and a wRC+ of 222. Although his numbers come in an incredibly small sample size, he clearly wasn’t inferior. In Triple-A before his call-up, the 23-year-old was batting .329 with seven home runs and a wOBA of .439, and that power seems ready to carry over to the majors. Lee has a good matchup on Monday against the White Sox and Chris Flexen, who is 2-7 with a 5.08 ERA, a 5.18 FIP and 15 home runs allowed in 18 games.

Martinez began the year with a bruised foot and a broken hook bone in his hand, which put him on the 60-day IL. He had another cup of coffee with the club in late June and was then recalled on July 4. Unlike the Twins, who batted Lee at the bottom of the order, the Guardians have put the 22-year-old Martinez right into a high-impact position, batting second in the lineup in each of the last four games. His on-base skills have been impressive, as he has collected eight walks in his four games since being called up and has hit 4-for-9 (.444) with two doubles and four runs scored. At Triple-A, he batted .316 with five home runs, two stolen bases and a wOBA of .444 in his 26 games. Although he has not been on a Steven Kwan ($5,800) level Yet Martinez is in a good position to score runs when he bats right after Kwan in front of the heart of the Guardians’ lineup. He can be used as a 2B or in the outfield, and that added versatility should keep him on many roster compositions as long as he costs under $3,000 and bats second in such a productive lineup.
