Brazil has just shown that it can be okay to say “no”

Brazil has just shown that it can be okay to say “no”

The big picture

  • “Love Is Blind Brazil” shows divorced or married couples who are looking for a second chance at love.
  • The connection between Patrick and Marília in the capsules seemed real, but their journey into the real world revealed communication problems and differences in lifestyle.
  • The couple decided to say “not yet” at their wedding to demonstrate mutual understanding and respect rather than a dramatic separation.

The dating hit from Netflix, Love is blindhas given singles ready for a committed relationship the chance to embark on an experiment where they can fall in love and get engaged without having seen each other first. Although the show’s purpose is to prove that looks can get in the way of people finding their ideal partner, it has also gained a reputation for casting people who were already in relationships before they took part in the show, and has even been sued by couples who were not treated properly during filming.

Despite the drama the Netflix reality show has generated over the years, it has brought together several lovebirds who remain happily married to this day and paved the way for more international versions of the US-originated project. Love is blind: Brazil is just one of the editions carried out abroad, with the same set of rules but obvious cultural differences that become apparent as the experiment progresses. The last season of the Brazil program included several engagements that produced promising results, but among so many “yes” words, one couple said “no yes” in the most unexpected way ever appear in the reality hit.

In season 4, now renamed Love is blind Brazil: A new beginningThe singles chosen for the matchmaking experiment were all either divorced or living in a cohabiting relationship and were eager to find a second chance at love. In this new episode of the show, a total of five couples left the pods happily engaged. The duos included Alexandre and Renata, Ingrid and Leandro, Vanessa and Leonardo, Ariela and Evandro and Marília and Patrick. The latter couple immediately hit it off in the podsgiven their laid-back personalities and similar lifestyles. Although their union was almost jeopardized because Patrick didn’t take notes in the capsules and confused Marília with Renata, he corrected his mistake and proposed to his true partner shortly after. When the time came to meet in person, their excitement about each other seemed visible and genuine. However, like many other couples who have been in Love is blindtheir journey into the real world made them reevaluate whether their connection through a wall was enough to give them the courage to marry.

After spending their honeymoon together with the other couples in a cozy getaway in Santa Catarina, Marília and Patrick seemed to be on the right track when they addressed the rumor about his intentions when he entered the show (he wasn’t really looking for a serious relationship). Although this seemed to be the only obstacle in the way of their bond, Only when they had the opportunity to share an apartment and return to their everyday lives did further problems come to the surface. Patrick’s laid-back lifestyle, which sees him sleeping late into the day and often scrolling on his phone for hours, proved to be a cause of tension between the two. At a pool party in episode 7, their relationship was put to the test when Patrick not only made a pointless joke that got on Marília’s nerves, but also failed to try to resolve pending issues with Renata (the contestant he had confused with his partner in the pods). When Ingrid, another contestant, tried to advise him to be more affectionate towards his fiancée, he did not take it well.

They noticed differences in living together

When the couple returned to their apartment, they argued about some of the insecurities they both felt about their relationship. Marília shared that she felt lonely at home when her partner didn’t spend quality time with her, and Patrick shared that he felt a little discouraged by his bride-to-be’s history and her maturity, saying that he was afraid that he might not be as experienced in life as she was. After coming to terms with their problems, The couple began to focus on being more present in each other’s lives and working on their communication skills. Although it looked like they were close to saying “yes” at the altar, on their wedding day they decided to say “no.”

Most weddings in Love is blind, where the couple does not marry, lead to awkwardness or melodrama. Usually, one of the two runs out of the aisle, feeling blindsided by the person they met in the capsules and later in the real world. However, this was far from what was shown in Marília and Patrick’s ceremony. Instead of one saying “yes” while the other says “no” (which is often the case), both decide to say “not yet”Afterwards, Marília said: “There was no other way to end this. We have always been honest and transparent. And we agree that now is not the right time. We both believe that everything has its time and our time has not come yet.”

Patrick and Marília agreed to say no

This unexpected reaction from the participants was a pleasant surprise, not because reality TV fans had hoped that they would split up, but because they made this decision together. After overcoming some obstacles along the way, mainly due to their lack of communication, the way Marília and Patrick called off their wedding seemed to be marked by the utmost respect. Through exuberant joy and happy tears, the couple did not say that they were not getting married because they did not want to be together, but because they still felt they needed more time to build their relationship outside of an environment monitored by cameras.

This wedding with a twist showed that It is possible to say “no” at the end of the matchmaking experiment by building mutual understanding before the altar. Marília and Patrick decided to call off the wedding after reaching an agreement. Rather than ruin a celebration with awkward events on the air, they decided to make the situation as lighthearted as an actual ceremony that went well. Although viewers won’t finally know if the duo is still in love until the reunion, which hits Netflix this Wednesday, July 10, their relationship had a beautiful resolution at the end of season 4 that will likely be remembered by viewers as one of the most epic wedding call-offs on reality TV.
