Great Dane proves she’s a real fan by listening to Taylor Swift

An English Mastiff has wowed the internet after proving what an avid Swiftie she is, and there is no debate about which song is her favorite from the Epoch Tour Setlist.

Dog owner Katelyn Redus, 38, captured the hilarious clip of her 10-year-old dog Miss Mia bobbing her head enthusiastically while listening to her favorite pop star. While the older dog enjoys listening to any music by Taylor Swift, Redus said Newsweek that “Cruel Summer” is “absolutely her thing” as it always elicits the strongest reactions.

Redus, from the Adirondacks in upstate New York, said her 14-year-old daughter Stella is a big Swiftie and she is constantly Taylor Swift: The Era Tour on a continuous loop. After being with her sister for so long, Mia has been converted and enjoys dancing along.

“Stella hosted the concert and Mia immediately pricked up her ears and moved to the front and center,” Redus said. “She danced with such a rhythm that I couldn’t help but film it. She bobs and sways to other songs and is now a Swiftie through and through, just like her big sister.”

It’s no secret that listening to music can relieve tension and calm us down, but research suggests the same is true for dogs. According to a study published in 2020 that examined the impact of auditory stimuli on dogs, music can be an effective therapeutic intervention with several benefits.

Of all the different genres, including rock, heavy metal, and pop music, classical music was the most calming, and dogs typically spent more time resting or lying down while listening and less time singing or standing up.

Before capturing the sweet moment of Mia’s dance, Redus was worried about the old dog’s fragile health. In the days before, she seemed “devastated” and the family began to fear the worst.

But after spending a weekend with her sister and listening to Swift’s music on repeat, Mia seems like a different person.

“For about three days she had a hard time getting up, and we had vets ready to come to our house if she continued to get worse,” she continued.

“We were heartbroken, but Stella asked if she could spend the weekend with her. During this time she sat with Mia and played the Epoch Tour on a loop, singing to her and cheering her up. When I got home from work, Mia was up and walking, happy as ever and slowly coming to herself. We just kept our fingers crossed and hoped that her good mood would continue.”

The reaction on social media

It’s been almost a month since then and Mia is still doing well and seems to be back to normal. The family couldn’t be happier that Mia is back to normal and living her best life, all with a little help from Swift.

Redus shared the video of her “bona fide Swiftie” on TikTok (@stellasmom85) on July 2, and it went viral, with over 736,100 views and 141,400 likes to date. We’ve seen her fans, young and old, rock out to her music, but now social media users can’t get enough of a four-legged Swiftie.

“The views and likes went up so high and I was overwhelmed. The comments were the best, just seeing how happy it made other people too. We’re just happy that our girl is enjoying her best dog days of summer rocking out like any old girl should,” Redus said Newsweek.

“Now we just need to get Stella to a concert so she can have some of her own live recordings to show Miss Mia.”

In just a few days, the viral video received over 1,300 comments on TikTok, with many people quick to praise Mia for being such a devoted fan.

One comment reads: “There has never been a cuter Swiftie.”

Another TikToker wrote: “Your dog has great taste in music.”

While another person joked: “Someone needs to bring this dog to the ‘Eras Tour’.”
