Michigan DOT still has a hundred-year-old car in use

There are so many modern cars today that older vehicles like the Ford Model T get lost in the crowd. However, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) still has one of the last remaining Model Ts in use.

This car is over 100 years old, so no one would expect it to run well.

But that’s not the case – and his job is to measure out enough space for Amish carriages to mark the shoulders of Michigan’s roads.

It’s not a very car-like task, but that’s really all it’s good for these days.

Of course, these things are not meant to be driven around on the road and kept in a vintage car collection.

However, you would be surprised how many of them can actually be executed, albeit not in a particularly promising way.

You need to be aware of the condition of the car before you drive it.

In fact, a duo in England even took a 45-minute drive (one way) in a 109-year-old Ford Model T and returned it during a visit to a Ford dealership.

Now that we’ve established that this old box is drivable, the question arises as to what the Michigan Department of Transportation actually plans to do with one of these vehicles.

The Michigan DOT gave it a special purpose

The Amish do not travel in regular vehicles, but prefer a more traditional mode of transportation in the form of horse-drawn carriages.

Since cars can be faster than carriages, they usually drive on the side of the road.

There are always exceptions – and this Amish jet buggy is probably faster than most others in this category.

Therefore, the Michigan Department of Transportation uses the Model T as the unit of measurement for these shoulders so that Amish carriages can travel easily.

Apparently the narrow track of a normal buggy is the same width as a Model T, so they probably thought, “Why not?”

It’s not a challenging task, but continuing to use a centuries-old classic is better than scrapping it.

At least it is if you are a car lover.

In addition, with a Ford Model T you would still be far behind compared to modern cars, so this classic also drives on the shoulder and ensures that the lanes created by the MDOT are in a line.

It’s great to see at least one of these historic vehicles still on the road after all these years.
