Rotary Club of River Cities awards scholarships to high school graduates

The Rotary Club of River Cities has awarded two $1,500 scholarships to high school graduates Miguel Aenlle of Mount Prospect and Katelyn Dahl of Des Plaines.

Aenlle graduated from John Hersey High School, where he founded and led the Hersey Developers Internship program. He also founded the JHHS Hack Club and Hack-a-thon.

In addition, he has developed an app that is widely used by teachers, District 214, and various community organizations. Aenlle plans to pursue his bachelor’s degree in computer science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The Rotary Club of River Cities awarded Katelyn Dahl of Des Plaines, a recent graduate of Maine West High School, a scholarship to attend Louisiana State University because she lived important Rotary principles during her high school years.

Dahl graduated from Maine West, where she was a standout athlete in volleyball and basketball. She was instrumental in founding the girls’ flag football program at Maine West.

Dahl also volunteers several hours each week at the Des Plaines Food Pantry. She plans to pursue her bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.

The scholarships were awarded to students who best embodied Rotary’s core values ​​of selfless service, leadership and community service.
