Gasoline prices in Michigan drop after holidays

Gasoline prices in Michigan have dropped 10 cents from a week ago, with drivers now paying an average of $3.57 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, AAA officials said Monday.

This new price is 12 cents higher than the same period last month and 8 cents higher than a year ago. Michigan drivers are paying an average of $53 for a full 15-gallon tank of gas, a discount of about $5 from the highest price in 2023 last August, according to a news release from AAA-The Auto Club Group.

“Michigan drivers can expect cheaper gas prices after the long holiday weekend,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokeswoman for AAA-The Auto Club Group, in a press release. “If demand drops and supply remains stable, prices at the pump could follow suit.”

Compared to last week, the average daily price of gasoline in Metro Detroit has decreased. The current average is $3.54 per gallon, about 5 cents less than last week’s average and 1 cent less than the same time in 2023.

According to GasBuddy’s price reports, the cheapest gas station in Detroit cost $2.99 ​​a gallon on Sunday, while the most expensive gas station cost $3.99.

The highest average gasoline prices are in Jackson ($3.68), Ann Arbor ($3.60) and Grand Rapids ($3.58).

On average, the cheapest gasoline prices are found in Marquette ($3.48), Flint ($3.50), and Traverse City ($3.50).

The national average price of gasoline increased 2 cents from last week and is now $3.51.
