Kerala Chief Minister promises action against appointment fraud, but avoids direct response to bribery allegation against CPI(M) leader

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced decisive action against fraudulent practices, including fraudulent appointments and recruitments, but refuted allegations that such malpractice took place in the appointment of Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) employees.

He was responding to allegations against a local CPI(M) leader in Kozhikode who allegedly accepted a bribe from a doctor to secure him a position as a PSC member.

Addressing the concerns of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) MP N. Samsudheen during Question Hour in the Kerala Assembly on July 8, Mr. Vijayan stressed that the Kerala PSC has always discharged its constitutional duties and has not indulged in corruption in its appointments. He also addressed “persistent efforts to tarnish the reputation of the recruitment body through falsehoods.”

Without directly mentioning the controversy surrounding the CPI(M)’s Kozhikode Municipal Committee member, Mr. Vijayan highlighted the various forms of fraud taking place in Kerala and assured that strict action would be taken against the culprits.
