Honors for Donald Sutherland: Michael Douglas and Nancy Sinatra pay respect to “true artist”

The death of Donald Sutherland at the age of 88 was met with a wave of condolences and moving memories from actors, musicians, authors and other well-known personalities.

The prolific Canadian actor, who has appeared in a variety of films and television shows, including The hunger Games, MASH And Don’t look nowdied on Thursday (June 20) in Miami, Florida.

Sutherland’s son, actor and singer Kiefer Sutherland, announced his death on Twitter, writing: “It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away.

“Personally, I consider him to be one of the greatest actors in film history. He was never discouraged by a role, whether it was good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and you can never ask for more than that. A fulfilled life.”

Several celebrities, including Basic instinct Star Michael Douglas and singer Nancy Sinatra have since responded to Sutherland’s death and expressed their deepest condolences.

Next to a photo of him and Sutherland in the 1994 mystery thriller NoticeDouglas wrote on Instagram: “What a lovely, talented and curious man. RIP Donald Sutherland.”

Singer Nancy Sinatra tweeted the Rolling Stone Article about his death with the comment: “This hurts. Good luck, Donald Sutherland,” next to a broken heart emoji.

The Hunger Games – The Ballads of Songbirds and Snakes Star Rachel Zegler reposted the news of his death along with three broken heart emojis on her Instagram story.

BAFTA-winning director Duncan Jones, son of the late David Bowie, thanked Kiefer for “sharing him with us,” adding: “We all benefitted from the talent and love he put into his work.”

“One of my all-time favorite actors who played so many amazing roles,” tweeted Piers Morgan alongside a photo of Sutherland. “What a sad loss.”

“My condolences,” replied bestselling author Karl Kaufman Kiefer. “Such an incredible filmography, including Klute, Hunger Games, Don’t look now, animal shelterand especially MASH.”

“Stacey (Weitzman) and I send you our deepest condolences, Barry And Happy Days Actor Henry Winkler replied: “Your father was truly one of a kind.”

“I love you, buddy. I’m so sorry. I’m here for you.” Smallville said alumnus Michael Rosenbaum.

The Lennon Report Actress Gloria Mann wrote: “I am so sorry for the loss of your brilliant father. He was one of my favorite actors from a young age. I watched everything he was in. He made everything better. I send my deepest condolences to you and your family. May he rest in peace.”

Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn and the Vampire Diaries Star Nina Dobrev expressed the same sentiment: “I am so sorry for your loss.”

“The first actor I worked with was when I was 10 years old,” said Austrian actor Nadiv Molcho (Trigger warning) commented The Hollywood Reporter‘s Instagram post. “A true artist.”

Sutherland leaves behind his wife Francine Racette, his sons Roeg, Rossif, Angus and Kiefer, his daughter Rachel and four grandchildren. The family will hold a private celebration of his death.
