Kyiv children’s hospital destroyed in Russian missile attack, several casualties reported

Russian troops launched a massive missile attack on Kyiv, reportedly including Kinzhal missiles, resulting in casualties and significant destruction.

All Kyiv Post correspondents heard a series of loud explosions accompanied by the loud whistle of rockets. Some saw columns of smoke rising from the impacts.

At 09:50 a large-scale air raid alert was triggered. The Ukrainian Air Force reported a threat from enemy ballistic weapons. Shortly afterwards, the first explosions were heard in Kropyvnytskyi district and Kryvyi Rih. Some missiles changed their direction towards the Kyiv region.

At 10:14 am, the Kyiv Military Administration (OVA) announced the deployment of air defense in the region. Later, Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the activation of air defense in Kyiv and its suburbs.

According to the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA), the rocket attack left debris in the Solomyansky, Dniprovsky, Darnytsky, Svyatoshinsky, Desnyansky, Shevchenkivsky and Holosiivsky districts.

In addition, in Shevchenkivsky district, the Okhmadyt children’s hospital was damaged. Significant destruction was reported. Local Telegram channels said that debris was being cleared at the site. Unconfirmed reports said that children were trapped under it.

Suspilne Media has released a video showing the aftermath of the attack on Okhmadyt Hospital.

Previous reports indicated damage to the hospital’s toxicology department; a doctor at the medical facility had reported injuries.

Ukrainian Health Minister Viktor Lyashko has arrived at the scene of the attack, local Telegram channels reported. According to Lyashko, the attack on Ochmadyt hit the building where children received dialysis. The missile attack also damaged the intensive care, surgical and oncology departments.

Lyashko added that transporting patients to facilities with artificial ventilation and oxygen was a priority.

“All emergency services are on site,” the KMVA said.

According to the latest data Currently there are 7 confirmed deaths and 9 injuries in Kyiv, although the information is still being updated.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has already responded to the attack.

“Russian terrorists have once again launched massive missile attacks on Ukraine. Various cities: Kyiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk,” he wrote.

According to the president, the Russians fired more than 40 rockets of various types throughout Ukraine, causing damage to residential buildings, infrastructure and a children’s hospital.

All services are working to save as many people as possible, Zelensky added.

“And the whole world must show all its determination to finally end the Russian attacks. Putin’s goal is murder. Only together can we create real peace and security,” he wrote.

At 11:35 a.m. the air raid warning was lifted.

Early in the morning, Russian troops also fired missiles at Ukraine, firing four Kh-101 missiles and two Iskander-M ballistic missiles. Air defense managed to destroy three Kh-101 missiles in the Zhytomyr and Cherkasy regions.
