10 Legends Who Made Philadelphia 6abc Action News Television Great

Philadelphia 6abc Action News Television has boasted an impressive roster of great on-air personalities for decades.

Here are 10 legends who helped make 6abc Action News great.

Our list is incomplete… but it is undoubtedly a great list.

The GOAT is Jim Gardnerwho retired after one of the greatest careers in American news journalism.

Gardner retired on December 21, 2022. Eddie cannot be replaced.

Jim O’Brien was one of the most popular of all time. He died tragically in a parachuting accident on September 25, 1983.

41 years after O’Brien’s death… he is still remembered and loved.

Bill White is perhaps most famous during his career as a television commentator for the New York Yankees…However, White moved to 6abc Action News in April 1970.

As a baseball player, White played for the Giants (New York and San Francisco), the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies from 1956 to 1969. As a talented first baseman, he won the Gold Gloves seven times in a row.

Gary Papa died on June 19, 2009 from the effects of cancer. He was only 54 years old at the time of his death.

Dad was a long-time popular sports reporter for 6abc Action News.

Dave Roberts ended his career at 6abc Action News on December 11, 2009 during the 6:00 p.m. newscast…fittingly alongside his longtime colleague, the legendary Jim Gardner.

Anita Brikman announced that she would be leaving 6abc Action News in October 2007.

Although she left more than 17 years ago, Brikman is fondly remembered by fans of 6abc Action News.

Vernon Odom retired on December 14, 2018. He worked at 6abc Action News for more than 40 years. You almost never see a broadcaster celebrate 40 years with a sane company.

Odom built a rare and special connection with his audience.

Cathy Gandolfo enjoyed great popularity on 6abc Action News and was broadcast for a long time.

Gandolfo retired (in October 2013) after 36 years of covering Philadelphia, South Jersey and the world.

Gandolfo is still active and has a very positive presence on her social media.

Rob Jennings retired from 6abc Action News on July 21, 2013. Jennings is still fondly remembered more than a decade after his retirement.

Nora Muchanic retired on October 31, 2017 after over 30 years at 6abc Action News.

Muchanic was a successful and talented… pioneer of on-the-ground reporting. She was a popular and enduring on-air personality.
