Emma Roberts says she lost jobs because of famous relatives

American Horror Story star Emma Roberts has claimed that she has been turned down for jobs in the past because of her celebrity background.

Roberts, 33, is the daughter of The Dark Knight Actor Eric Roberts and niece of Julia Roberts.

Roberts has faced accusations that she is a “nepo baby” – that is, someone who works in the entertainment industry and benefits from active or passive nepotism – but in a new interview she suggested that the Roberts name has actually damaged her career.

“I have lost more jobs than I have gained through my work in the industry,” she said Flaunt Magazine. “People have opinions and sometimes they may not be good opinions about people in the family. I never got a job because of it, but I know I definitely lost a few jobs because of it.”

Roberts also alluded to a 2022 edition new York Magazine that featured a picture in which the faces of several famous “Nepo babies” were superimposed on real babies. She herself was not seen in the picture.

“Should I be offended?” she said. “It was a cheap trick to put all the celebrity kids on baby bodies on the cover of a magazine. It’s like maybe the ‘Nepo Baby’ conversation would have been a more interesting article that was intelligently written. Vanity Fair with nuances, but instead it was this kind of viral misanthropy.”

Roberts also recently commented on the box office flop of the 2024 superhero film Madame Webin which she starred alongside Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney and Adam Scott.

Speak with diversityRoberts cited “internet culture” as one of the reasons for the poor performance of the film, which was panned by critics.

“Personally, I loved Madame Web“I really enjoyed the film. I thought all the actors were great,” she said. “The director, SJ Clarkson, I think did a great job. She’s the reason I wanted to make this film. If it weren’t for internet culture and ridiculing everything, the reception probably would have been different.”

“And that’s what annoys me about a lot of things, even things I’ve done: people make such a joke out of everything these days,” she continued.

In Madame Web Roberts played Mary Parker, the mother of Spider-Man/Peter Parker, who is briefly seen in the film as a newborn but has no name.
