JUG

breed

Davis Daniel, Los Angeles Angels Comparisons Texas Rangers ($8,000) — The second start of his MLB career didn’t go so well. Daniel allowed home runs in the fifth and sixth innings and gave up four runs. His debut was much better – eight strikeouts in eight scoreless innings. He started 84.6% of batters with a strike on the first pitch and posted a swinging strike rate of 13.1% in his June 27 masterpiece. Daniel’s ERA was high in Triple-A, but that’s PCL inflation. He’s posted solid strikeout numbers in his four minor league seasons. Before being called up in late June, Daniel posted three games with eight strikeouts in Triple-A that month.

Value

Yilber Diaz, Arizona Diamondbacks Comparisons Atlanta Braves ($6,000) — The Diamondbacks’ No. 6 prospect will make his major league debut on Monday night. Diaz began the season in Double-A and was promptly promoted in June. In his fourth and final start in Triple-A, he struck out 13 batters in six scoreless innings. At one point, he even struck out seven in a row. Diaz posted a 3.27 ERA with the Reno Aces — a team in the notorious PCL where every park is Coors Field. He has a top-notch fastball and curveball and has developed a slider to give a pitch more horizontal movement. The kid has the talent, but he’s still a kid. This is a make-or-break MLB DFS value pick.

INFIELD

breed

Jose Ramirez, Cleveland Guardian at Detroit Tigers ($6,500)SP Keider Montero ($4,000) is the preferred stacking target for Monday’s roster. The rookie pitcher has a 6.60 ERA after 15 innings with a 2.4 HR/9. Cleveland isn’t cheap, but they can be afforded by selecting the affordable pitching options above. Ramirez has a .238 ISO against right-handed pitchers.

Elly De La Cruz, Cincinnati Reds Comparisons Colorado Rockies ($6,300) — The newly named All-Star will be hot on Monday. When is the sport’s biggest star not hot? De La Cruz has a .252 ISO, a .360 wOBA and a 129 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers. SP Ryan Feltner ($5,500) allows left-handers a wOBA of .378.

Value

Brooks Lee, Minnesota Twins at Chicago White Sox ($4,000) Minnesota’s No. 3 prospect (49th overall) had a .439 wOBA and .306 ISO in 94 plate appearances at Triple-A. He was called up last week and kept hitting, hitting safely in all five games, with nine hits and six RBIs in 19 at-bats (one home run and one double).

Brendan Rodgers, Colorado Rockies at Cincinnati Reds ($3,700) — This isn’t Coors Field, but Great American Ball Park is the next best thing. Rodgers has a .213 ISO, a .402 wOBA and a 147 wRC+ against left-handed pitchers. The Cincinnati game has the highest point total on Monday’s list (9.5).

OUTFIELD

breed

Steven Kwan, Cleveland Guardians at Detroit Tigers ($5,800) — MLB DFS players aren’t willing to pay for a singles hitter. Kwan hits enough of them to make up for his lack of power (.364 AVG). Speaking of power, Kwan has hit a home run in two of his last four games. In a small sample, Keider Montero’s advanced stats against left-handed batters were strong (3.25 xFIP vs. LHB). That’s a small sample, and his traditional stats aren’t great — six runs in nine innings against left-handed batters.

Riley Greene, Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Guardians ($4,900) – SP Gavin Williams ($8,500) has a long road ahead of him in his recovery from an elbow injury suffered in the spring. Williams had a 6.00 ERA in five rehab appearances at Triple-A. In his return on July 3, he gave up five runs and seven hits in four innings against the White Sox. Greene has a .248 ISO, a .397 wOBA and a 160 wRC+ against RHP.

Value

Trevor Larnach, Minnesota Twins at Chicago White Sox (4,000 USD) The Twins are good, but Larnach is not, making him affordable in a plus matchup. SP Chris Flexen ($5,700) allows a wOBA of .388 and has an xFIP of 5.12 against opposite-handed hitters. The total runs scored are nine for this contest in Chicago’s hitter-friendly park.

Hunter Goodman, Colorado Rockies at Cincinnati Reds ($3,800) — left handed SP Andrew Abbott ($8,300) has trouble against right-handed hitters – 5.28 xFIP and 1.7 HR/9. Goodman – Colorado’s No. 4 prospect – has a .385 ISO, a .341 wOBA and a 106 wRC+ in 42 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers.
