A deeper look with Framestore.
Today on the Before, afterwards Podcast we talk to VFX Supervisor Chris Lawrence and Animation Supervisor Arslan Elver about their work on director John Krasinski’s IF. Chris and Arslan, both from Framestore, go into great detail here about how they brought the many imaginary friends – all computer generated – into the live-action film. We talk about early tests, which were carried out with Chris’ son among others, and show the characters in the lobby of Framestore.
We also venture into what was done on set, including things like quick LiDAR scans of sets during filming and using those scans to create almost post-visual frames for the characters. One thing I loved hearing from the guys was successes and failures as they explored how to complete the scenes. We also discussed their favorite shots and there are a few fun anecdotes from Chris and Arslan.
