Police say 17-year-old driver dies in fiery accident after his vehicle crashes into several trees

MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI — A 17-year-old girl died in an early morning crash after her vehicle left the road, struck several trees and caught fire, Michigan State Police said.

The identity of the juvenile driver who died in the car accident has not yet been released by state police.

At 12:05 a.m., troopers responded to a report of an accident on Sunday, July 7, on County Road 482 in Ely Township of Marquette County.

There, police found a vehicle about 30 meters from the road that was completely engulfed in flames. The vehicle, a Ford SUV, was lying on its side and appeared to have driven through several trees before coming to a stop.

Police tried to extinguish the fire and help the vehicle’s occupants. The only occupant, a 17-year-old girl, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
