The Civil War Roundtable of the Mid-Ohio Valley (CWRT) is hosting a brand new event this weekend in Marietta.

According to a press release, CWRT will host “History in the Park” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Muskingum Park in Marietta.

“History in the Park is taking place for the first time this year,” Said CWRT President Nancy Arthur.

She said CWRT is sponsoring the event “to show what the regional organizations have to offer in the field of the history of our region.”

According to Arthur, “History in the Park” will be presented in conjunction with the annual Northwest Territory Ordinance dedication ceremony in the park.

She said Ohio 250 will be at the event to generate interest for the upcoming U.S. 250th anniversary celebration in 2026.

She also said there will be tours of the First Congregational Church on Front Street, history-related children’s games, participation by members of the color guard and a presentation on a day in the life of a soldier.

Arthur said the CWRT invites history-related organizations to participate in the event. Those organizations do not have to focus on the Civil War. She said participating groups will set up displays to inform visitors about their services. She also said there will be food trucks next to the Putnam Street Bridge as part of the event.

“For many people who want to go on day trips, this is a great way to get a taste of what is on offer,” Arthur said of the event:

She believes that History in the Park is a great way to enjoy the day.

“Enjoy a summer day at the Muskingum River Park in Marietta, where the Northwest Territory began,” She said.
